The MUSEUM CLUB is now in its 17th year. It is a sustainable programme that highlights individual elements of cultural heritage and links them to current events in Slovenia and Europe.

In 2019, the moderator of the MUSEUM CLUB will be the renowned director Bojan Labović, who will highlight the role of bourgeois culture in postmodern society with the theme of the bourgeoisie versus the petty bourgeoisie. Questions will be raised about the role and meaning of bourgeois culture, the legacy of the values that shaped the entire 19th century, and how we respond to them today. The MUSEUM CLUB will be held on five occasions in March, April, September, October and November.

A Mirror to the Petty Bourgeoisie

At our first gathering we will compare the bourgeoisie, which has historically been the vehicle of democracy, economic, scientific and cultural progress, and its deviation, the petty bourgeoisie, which is the opposite of bourgeois progress. Our guests will be historian Andrej Studen and ethnologist Dr Maja Godina Golija.

The Bourgeois Psyche

The initial question of this year's Museum Club will be whether the bourgeoisie would exist without its typical characteristics such as narcissism, nervousness and suffering.

Would it be as dynamic, creative and individual without them? A conversation with two renowned interlocutors, psychiatrist and psychoanalyst Dr Matjaž Lunaček and neuropsychiatrist and Jungian psychoanalyst Dr Jožef Magdič.

The Bourgeoisie and Women

On the role of women in patriarchal bourgeois society, on their split between the roles of mother, wife and housewife, and on their desire for freedom of choice.

A conversation with historian Dr Mateja Ratej and journalist and columnist Ervin Hladnik Milharčič.

In 2018, the content is linked to the new uniform storage facility, which opened in May. Discussions on different aspects of uniformity will be held with several interesting guests.

Museum Club 2017

The MUSEUM CLUB is a sustainable programme that highlights individual elements of cultural heritage and links them to current events in Slovenia and Europe.

In 2017, the content of the MUSEUM CLUB was focused on culinary heritage and the development of gastronomy. It was linked to the main exhibition KITCHEN DEBATE, which opened at the Maribor Regional Museum at the beginning of June.

Meetings with researchers, entrepreneurs, promoters and enthusiasts working with food and food culture were moderated by Sašo Papp, Tadej Pungartnik and Nives Cvikl.

The Maribor College of Catering and Tourism and local winemakers also took part in the event, which was accompanied by a tasting of selected dishes and beverages.

The MUSEUM CLUB meetings take place in the Castle Café, entrance from Freedom Square.

MUSEUM CLUB - MUSIC THROUGH TIME

The MUSEUM CLUB will have its 14th modified edition in 2016, which is a testament to the sustainability and success of the programme. With the club we highlight the museum object and its story, relating it to current events in the region and beyond. Among the guests of the club we should mention Dr Vesna Vuk Godina, intellectual and poet Ciril Zlobec, Alenka Puhar, Primož Debenjak, Dr Dušan Nečák, Dr František Arhár, Dr Zinka Zorka, Dr Manica Špendal and many other prominent personalities in the region of Slovenia. In 2014, we dedicated the leading theme to Rudolf Gustav Puff, a secondary school professor, chronicler of the city Maribor, and highlighted stories that helped shape the current events of the 21st century. The museum curators highlighted individual museum objects, which were used as a prism of the 19th century to respond to the current events of the 21st century. Due to the continued high response and attendance of the MUSEUM CLUB, we are continuing the project in 2016, when the focus will be on intangible heritage. We will take a walk through the history of music, from the Renaissance to the 20th century, with a series of short concerts. The concerts will be accompanied by lectures on each musical period, complemented by features from the local environment. Topics we are highlighting in 2016 are:
