EXPLORE
The virtual exhibition We're going on our own presents seven independent cultural institutions in Maribor with common roots. They are the backbone of Maribor's institutional cultural activity. In addition to the Maribor Regional Museum, the exhibition also presents the Maribor University Library, the Maribor Regional Archive, the town's main Art Gallery, the Museum of National Liberation, the Maribor Synagogue and the Institute for the Protection of Cultural Heritage the Maribor Regional Unit.
The exhibition We're going on our own was created to celebrate the 120th anniversary of the Maribor Regional Museum as part of the project of the same name.

The link between the Institute and the Museum has always been strong. The cooperation with the former Director of the Museum, Dr Sergej Vrišer, was decisive for the preservation and restoration of some key cultural monuments in Maribor and the surrounding area.
The association with the museum archaeologist Stanko Pahič, who carried out topographic surveys of the area of NE Slovenia, led to the mapping and the first registers of archaeological sites, and since 1973 has created a solid foundation for the protection of sites in the area.

Cooperation continued with archaeological investigations on the motorway routes, which took place under the auspices of the Maribor unit of the ZVKDS between 1996 and 2008 and culminated in the high-profile joint exhibition Current Archaeological Discoveries in 2009.
This exemplary cooperation continues today with the restoration of the cultural monument Maribor - Castle.
