Art competition Great Creations by Little Masters 2026 It brought together nurseries and primary schools from across Slovenia and offered children the opportunity to express their thoughts, feelings and views of the world around them through artistic creation. In the 2025/2026 school year, we linked this creative journey to the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the 17 Sustainable Development Goals, which emphasise the importance of caring for people, nature and society.
The competition encourages children to reflect on the major challenges of our time, such as climate change, environmental protection, equality, gender equality, peaceful coexistence and mutual respect. At the same time, it encourages them to realise that even small actions can contribute to big changes, both at home and at school, nursery and in the wider community. Educational institutions play a vital role in this, as they do not merely impart knowledge to children, but nurture them into responsible, creative and active individuals who will help shape a better future.
A total of 91 teachers from 21 nursery schools and 41 primary schools across Slovenia took part in this competition. We received more than 530 artworks, from which the expert panel selected the 100 most outstanding pieces. The children created their works using various artistic approaches and techniques – they drew, painted, created prints and collages, and tried their hand at sculpting and making mobiles. We also received a video on the importance of preserving habitats such as wetlands. In this way, the children used their imagination to present their understanding of sustainable development, the connections between people, and their relationship with nature and the world.
The selected works demonstrate that children’s creativity knows no bounds. The exhibition and catalogue are thus a tribute to children’s imagination and creativity, as well as to the dedicated work of the mentors who encourage the children to explore, express themselves and create art.
