MARIBOR DAY 2026

COMMEMORATIVE EVENING

Ceremonial Academy

This year’s commemorative evening to mark Maribor Day will be dedicated to Tomaž Pandur (1963–2016), a renowned director who took his unique vision of theatre from the local stage in Maribor out into the world with great success. A decade after his untimely and sudden death, he remains in people’s memories as a bold visionary, a self-assured, charismatic and refined cosmopolitan who not only created, dreamt of and reflected on theatre, but also lived it.

At the commemorative evening, Dr Mirjana Koren, Director of the Maribor Regional Museum, will address the audience. His life and legacy will be explored by Tanja Lužar, a dramaturg at the Maribor National Theatre (SNG Maribor), in a talk entitled »The Theatrical Landscapes of Tomaž Pandur«, and by Dr Karmen Salmič Kovačič, head of the music and film collection at the University Library of Maribor, with a presentation entitled »Tomaž Pandur in the Light of the University Library of Maribor’s Collection of Posthumous Media Echoes«.The evening will be moderated by Nives Cvikl, curator of the Maribor Regional Museum
