MESEC MODE IN THE MUSEUM

Fashion Month at the Museum is a traditional project in which we present our collection of clothing culture in a fresh and contemporary way. The project consists of a temporary exhibition and programmes for young people and adults, highlighting our clothing heritage as a source for re-creation and inspiration for contemporary creations.

OPENING OF TEMPORARY EXHIBITIONS

  • An insight into the rich cultural and handicraft heritage of the headgear and the contemporary approaches of young artists;
  • Conversations with curators, master milliners and the authors of the exhibited works, opening up their perspectives, creative processes and the stories behind the objects;
  • An event bringing together heritage, modernity and knowledge with the multi-faceted stories of millinery and fashion.

Opening of temporary exhibitions:

IN THE WORLD OF HEADGEAR

  • Presentation of headgear from the collection of dress culture as one of the oldest forms of social marking and as multifaceted objects that combine the functional, symbolic and aesthetic dimensions of dress culture.
  • The exhibition is organised in six thematic sections, which show the diverse roles of headgear over time. Headgear is presented as a carrier of meanings that transcend its materiality and tell a broader story about people, culture and art.

 

STORIES ABOUT HATS:

  • The selection of exceptional headgear from Slovenian museums reveals the unique stories of individual objects and at the same time highlights the importance of museums working together to jointly research, protect and present cultural heritage.
  • Participants: Ptuj Ormož Regional Museum, Maribor National Liberation Museum, Celje Regional Museum, Celje Museum of Contemporary History, Škofja Loka Loka Loka Museum, Military Museum of the Slovenian Armed Forces, Ljubljana City Museum, Pomurje Museum Murska Sobota.

 

SENCA ELEGANCE

  • Contemporary creativity, where the protective function of the headgear is intertwined with aesthetic and artistic expression.
  • The works of four Slovenian women artists are presented - Ana Lazovska, Špela Strašek (Boho Headwear), Polona Poklukar and Ana Cajhen - whose work marks the contemporary millinery and fashion landscape. Their creations combine tradition, superior craftsmanship and innovative approaches, shaping each headdress into a unique artistic and fashion expression.

 

FASHION AT THE TOP

  • The headwear is set in a space of contemporary fashion and youthful creativity.
  • Through original approaches, pupils, students and young designers explore form, material and meaning, using experimentation and contemporary expression to connect the heritage of millinery with the dialogue between tradition and the future of fashion.
  • Participants:Taja Frešer, Julia Kaja Hrovat - JKH Identity, students of the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Engineering at the University of Ljubljana (Tilen Gorenjak, Zarja Černe) and design professors (Metod Črešnar, Nataša Grčar Napast, Rudi Vrhovšek) of the Ljubljana Secondary School of Design and Photography.

  DEMONSTRATION FAIR

  • Showcasing master milliners who combine tradition, contemporary design and personal expression.
  • Learn about the different approaches to hat and headdress design, handicraft and creativity.
  • Stands: Špela Strašek (Boho Headwear), Polona Poklukar, Ana Cajhen, Jožef Marzidovšek, Matjaž Rešek (J.I.M. hats).

 

TALES FROM THE HAT

  • Telling fairy tales and stories about hats that awaken imagination and curiosity.
  • In cooperation with Maribor Library and storyteller Sonja Hojnik Javernik.

PRESENTATIONS AND TALKS WITH MILLINERS AND MILLINERS

  • Meet the creators behind the unique hats.
  • In relaxed conversations, they will share their stories, inspirations, creative processes and insights into contemporary millinery, and reveal interesting facts from the world of headwear design.

LET'S MAKE A HAT WITH A VISOR!

  • Children and families will take part in a family workshop led by Nine Holc make your own beanie with a visor. Through play, creativity and exploration of materials, participants will develop their imagination and take home a unique product.

  • Student fashion shows presenting contemporary interpretations of headwear and accessories.
  • Exploring the relationship between tradition, innovation, construction and the expressive power of detail.
  • Showcasing collections that reveal fresh perspectives on design and thoughtful approaches to materials, silhouettes and the function of accessories in the contemporary space.
  • Participants: Maribor Secondary School of Design, Ljubljana Secondary School of Design and Photography, Celje Secondary School of Service Activities and Logistics, Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, University of Maribor, Faculty of Natural Sciences and Engineering, University of Ljubljana and Faculty of Design (independent higher education institution).

  • An evening of elegance, contemporary design and creative interpretations of headwear.
  • Bringing together diverse design approaches and presenting a wealth of expressions that position the headwear as a distinctive and conceptually thoughtful fashion accent.
  • A blend of aesthetics, innovation and personal expression, where the headwear becomes a vehicle for identity, character and a contemporary fashion narrative.
  • Fashion designers: JKH Identity, Akinora Celin, Medle x Črešnar, Tanja Uvera, BB+ fashion, Barbara Vrbančič, Renata Bedene, Axis Rose, Sania Reja Aske x Sofia Nogard.
  • Master milliners: Boho Headwear in Ana Lazovski's hair, Polona Poklukar, Ana Cajhen.
