The wide, semicircular cape was used for vespers, blessings and solemn rites. The colourful brocade features rich embroidery in relief and a shield with the coat of arms of Count Karl Kuenburg of Ljubljana on the back.
The outer vestments of Catholic priests in the 17th and 18th centuries were cut in the shape of large string instruments. The damask is embroidered with pomegranate motifs, a symbol of spiritual love, fertility and wealth in Christianity.
The material for the folded vestment was always of the same fabric and colour as the velum or the chalice mantle or the entire vestment. In the late Middle Ages, they were used to hold the relics of saints, which were carried on journeys.
A ciborium is a special sacred vessel in which the holy hosts are kept for the communion of the faithful. The chasuble is made of white damask, embroidered with the IHS monogram in a frame of flaming rays, with stylised palmettes at the edge.
The maniple was used to wipe the hands and face, the velum was used as a cloak for blessings or processions, the stole was worn around the neck for special ceremonies, and the pall covered the chalice. The set was made of the same material as the chasuble in red liturgical colour. The colour of blood and fire is used in liturgy for the feasts of the Holy Spirit, all rites in memory of Jesus' suffering as well as the feasts of the apostles and martyrs.
