\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\tStudents get a basic idea of life in prehistoric times by looking at archaeological findings from the wider Maribor area. Mock-ups of prehistoric dwellings also give pupils an insight into different prehistoric periods. \n\t\t\t\t\t\t\tStudents learn about the origins of the medieval city and the individual phenomena and structures in the city from the Middle Ages to the early 18th century. During a lesson in the permanent exhibition Between the Glamour and Misery of the Middle Ages, the pupils draw conclusions about the appearance of the medieval city and the way it defended itself against military dangers, using the exhibited artefacts. They learn about the function of the town magistrate, how the townspeople earned their living, what languages they spoke and how they dressed. \n\t\t\t\t\t\t\tThe permanent exhibition and the individual architectural features of Maribor Castle are a direct source for understanding the consequences of the Turkish invasions of (historical) Slovenian lands. In the permanent exhibition, students learn about the innovations in armaments and the advantages of the Turkish army that influenced the organisation of defence and the construction of new defence towers in Maribor, as well as the castle bastion as an example of authentic anti-Turkish defensive architecture.
