Fun and educational cooking workshops at the Maribor Regional Museum.

2020
From February until the end of 2020, the Castle Café's kitchen will host eight workshops on traditional dessert preparation. They will be led by Darinka Gostenčnik, a renowned educator, pastry chef and author of textbooks on pastry-making. She will demonstrate the preparation of different types of desserts, which participants will then prepare themselves in small groups with her help.

The content of the workshops will change every month:

  • 15 February 2020 at 10:00 We'll get to know sourdough and fried dough: we'll make doughnuts, sourdough fritters, crispy fritters and fritters.
  • 14 March 2020 at 10:00 We'll get to know the Drawn Test: we'll make the famous Goriška gibanica, strudels and baklava.
  • 4 April 2020 at 10:00 We will make the Slovenian protected walnut cake, festive Easter bider bread, cinnamon snails, stuffed mini croissants.
  • 9 May 2020 at 10:00 We will learn about puff pastry and steamed dough: we will make puff pastry and form savoury pasties and Zagreb slices, we will make steamed dough and form princesses and eclairs.
  • 12 September 2020 at 10 am GETTING TO KNOW THE KNEADED AND BRISGED CRISPET: we will make a kish, a crostata, an apple pie, a finely sprayed shortcrust pastry.
  • 10 October 2020 at 10 am LEARN ABOUT BISKVITNO MASO: make a distinctive Doboš cake, make a birthday cake with shiny mirror icing and decorate it, make a hostess cake.
  • 14 November 2020 at 10 am LEARN ABOUT PORTIONED SWEETS, TEMPERATURE AND DECORATE CHOCOLATE: make a chocolate dessert, create a flan, temper chocolate and design chocolate decor.
  • 12 December at 10 am LEARN ABOUT HONEY AND CRITCH Dough from ALTERNATIVE INGREDIENTS: make honey dough, shape, bake and decorate gingerbread cookies, make brittle dough from unusual recipes, shape small pastries for the holidays.


The price per workshop is € 18,00 incl. VAT.

Registration is required to organise the programme. Registrations are accepted at least two days before the start of each meeting at museum@museum-mb.si or 02 228 35 51 until the places are filled. Registration is confirmed once the cost of the workshop has been paid.

At the end of each meeting, participants receive detailed recipes with preparation procedures.

Each workshop lasts 4-5 hours.

They will be led by Darinka Gostenčnik, a renowned pastry educator, pastry chef and author of textbooks on pastry making. She will demonstrate the preparation of different types of desserts, which participants will then prepare themselves in small groups with her help.

The content of the workshops will change every month:

  • On 17 March 2018 at 10:00, learn about sourdough, bake doughnuts and fry doughnuts.
  • On 14 April 2018 at 10:00, learn about pulled dough, make apple strudel and Prekmurje gibanica.
  • 19 May 2018 at 10:00, learn about steamed dough, make dumplings and princesses.
  • On 16 June 2018 at 10:00, learn about puff pastry and puff pastry, and get hands-on with cream puffs and apple pie.
  • On 15 September 2018 at 10:00, learn about precision desserts and create a fresh cake.
  • On 20 October 2018 at 10:00, learn about biscuits and make a chestnut cake.
  • On 17 November 2018 at 10:00, we will learn about the narastki and have a lava cake at the end.
  • On 15 December 2018 at 10:00, learn about honey dough and bake gingerbread cookies.
