SPIRIT OF GRAIN

HARVEST CELEBRATIONS

During the 20th century major changes occurred in agriculture. Jobs were mechanized, and their social frameworks have changed. With that, the customs that accompanied them also changed. In some areas of Vojvodina cultural manifestations - harvest festivities - have developed instead of former customs. The most famous is ''Dužijanca'' in the north of Bačka. The central part of ''Dužijanca'' is represented by a procession in which the ''bandaš'' and ''bandašica'', decorated with straw decorations, i.e. "beads", carry a harvest wreath or a crown to the church, as a symbol of gratitude to God for a good harvest. The crown from Tavankut, which was made in 1960, is kept in the Museum of Vojvodina.
