EXPLORE
In the Baroque period, another version of wax figurines became extremely popular: the Trösterlein or Seelentrösterlein (Comforter of the Soul) or the Himmlischer Bräutigam (Heavenly Bridegroom), which families gave to their daughters when they entered a convent or took perpetual vows. They were supposed to be a comfort to them, as many girls entered the monastery at a very young age and thereby renounced motherhood, so they were allowed to comfort and caress Jesus the Comforter as if it was their own child. The heavenly bridegroom points to the young nun's mystical betrothal to Christ upon her entry into the monastery. A sumptuously dressed and decorated "Trösterlein" or Jesus the Comforter stood with the prioress's permission in the prayer corner of each cell.
Seated Jesus (Jesus the Comforter-Trösterlein?), inv. no. SVM 3065.
There is a small note on the chest under the undergarment with a prayer: J.M.J.Th./Mein gottlich Kind um was ich fleh,/ist immer nur das Eine:/Dass eine Liebe ohne Maß/mich stets mit Dir vereine!/Lebe wohl, mein Jesulein, segen mich u. d. Meinen/u. sende uns vielen heiligen Priester. Amen!/S.M.Th. a. I.J.
Translation: J.M.J.Th./"My child of God, what I ask of you is always one thing: may boundless love keep us united! Hail my Jesus, bless me and mine and send us many holy priests. Amen!” S.M.Th. a. I.J.

When the figures were taken to the museum, their condition was in most cases very bad. For decades they were almost forgotten and no longer worshipped as they used to be. Most often, they waited in unsuitable conditions to be restored to their former glory. In all their beauty and grace, devotionals of this type came into the limelight again in 2005 at the temporary exhibition of Jesulus Pragensis and other wax figures in the Slovenian Religious Museum in Stična.
Jesus is laid on a larger silk pillow, with a smaller silk pillow under his head. His eyes are made of glass. His eyebrows, eyelashes, eye rims, nostrils and lips are painted. The natural hair wig is original. Jesus is dressed in three clothes. The cream-colored silk upper dress is decorated with embroidery in the form of a plant ornament and lace made of gilded and silver thread in the shape of a shell (Goldmuschelspitze). The bottom dress consists of a skirt and trousers, which are made of white cotton. The skirt is decorated with lace, and the trousers are decorated with a hollow lace. The baby Jesus lies in a black wooden cabinet with a glass front and glass sides. Fabric flowers are placed next to it, and they also decorate the back wall of the cabinet.
