STRAW IN DAILY LIFE AND RITUALS

THE SPIRIT
OF GRAIN

Straw is mostly associated with something barren, worthless, futile and dead. However, its place in the common ritual practices of our, and also a considerably wider cultural area, shows that it had a profoundly different meaning for the people in the past. Over time, objects made of straw have moved from rural life into new cultural contexts, also due to certain institutions. As a material for artistic expression and the production of special-purpose objects, straw has over time found its place in modern life. It has become a symbol of new values, whether on the basis of the meaning it had for the beliefs and rituals in the past or it's interpretations, which belong to the domain of folklorism.
