UNIFORMS

The Uniform Collection consists of military and civilian uniforms, with more than 3,400 items from the early 19th century to the modern uniforms of the military and civilian uniformed services. The collection contains clothing, footwear, headgear, equipment and many other items.

The group of oldest objects includes an Austrian cuirassier's helmet, an Austrian hussar's bag with the monogram of Emperor Franz I and a parade cuirassier's breastplate.

A large part of the collection consists of uniforms from the second half of the 19th century (until 1918), which mark the colourful world of Austro-Hungarian uniforms of the various branches of the army, navy, generals, guard and armoury.

We keep the distinctive grey, greenish and light brown uniforms, a lot of headgear from the First World War and uniforms from the time of the Kingdom of SHS.

Clothing, armour and ranks of German and Italian occupying troops and helmets of various armies, have been preserved from the Second World War. The collection also contains headgear of Slovenian partisans from the National Liberation movement and objects of all Yugoslav People's Army branches.

The collection of civilian uniforms includes uniforms of former civil servants and various associations from the Austro-Hungarian Empire, the Kingdom of Yugoslavia, the SFRY and the Republic of Slovenia. We also hold firefighters' uniforms and equipment, postmen's, railwaymen's and police uniforms, customs and airline uniforms, various workwear and clothing from other uniformed services, including modern uniforms.
