In Slovenia, we got a gastronomy strategy in 2006. It was not just another of the countless documents piling up in the cupboards of ministries and companies, but a binding professional text that we began to implement systematically.
Although some government offices were still unaware of the strategy three or four years after it was set up, the matter was being implemented year after year. We are particularly pleased that in 2018 we have entered the "European Regions of Gastronomy", where a good number of projects proposed by some ministries and other stakeholders are to be implemented by 2021.
Today, local and regional cuisine is strongly emphasised in world gastronomy. This is, in fact, humanity's logical response to the aggressiveness of global food desertification.
For once, Slovenia can still boast great tastes, quality food, knowledge of the diet of the four seasons, and links to a food culture that is not just a matter of historical memory. On the other hand, however, we may be concerned about certain phenomena that could destroy this distinctive wealth in the near future and we could start drowning in a flood of global food abundance on a single hoof!
The lecture will take place on Tuesday, 15 May 2018, at 18:00 in the Castle Café.
You are cordially invited!
