VIDEO - LOVE GOES THROUGH THE KITCHEN

The kitchen furniture, utensils and crockery on display are from the Maribor Regional Museum. The oldest items on display are wall doors from the early 17th century, while the youngest is the Marles Maksima kitchen from 1970, which was still in use in 2016. The exhibition is divided into nine thematic sections, to which a selection of foodstuffs is linked. Testimonials by Dr Svetlana Slapšak, Darinka Gostenčnik, Ivan Gabrovec, Štefka Kučan, Irena Kajnč and Uroš Mencinger round off each thematic section with their personal story.

The title of the exhibition is an interpretation of the naming of a political debate between Russia and the United States, which was sparked by a topic obscure for politics, namely modern kitchen equipment. At a time of crisis, when the planet was threatened by a new war, the clash of two paradigms also revealed the difference between East and West in the perception of the social roles of the two sexes. While boys throughout history have been educated for public service, girls have been educated to be housewives. Girls were also given small kitchens to play with, such as the one donated to the Maribor Regional Museum by Helga Geiselbrecht on behalf of the Nürnberg Toy Museum.

The exhibition is on display in the Kino Partizan exhibition centre, the Castle and the Castle Café.
