The exhibition shows the beginnings of museology in Maribor and its development in the Regional Museum Maribor from 1896 to 2003. It is in the room where the frescoes by Matej Sternen from 1940, which he painted for the then Castle Cellar Restaurant, are preserved. A part of the first museum exhibition from 1903 has been reconstructed and the museum collections are presented as the foundation of the museum's work. The heritage collected in these collections defines the museum as a database of information on the cultural and historical identity of a place and an individual. The involvement of the Maribor Museum in the general development of museums is illustrated in the runner, which records selected events in the history of museums.
