Fashion Month at the Museum is a traditional project in which we present our collection of clothing culture in a fresh and contemporary way. The project consists of a temporary exhibition and programmes for young people and adults, highlighting our clothing heritage as a source for re-creation and inspiration for contemporary creations.
Theme: In 2025, Fashion Month at the Museum explores the creative relationship between fashion and music. How music inspires fashion and how fashion responds to musical trends. Where visual imagery and sonic expression meet, and how they influence the image of the individual and wider cultural currents. This year's programme brings a dialogue between fashion designers and musicians, a look into the Baroque past and contemporary interpretations of female figures in bourgeois musical culture.
Duration: The project will run from 15 to 29 May 2025.

3. EVENT
Tuesday, 20 May 2024 at 12.00, Knights' Hall of Maribor Castle MUSIC AND DRESS: THE FEMALE FIGURE IN THE WORLD OF BOURGEOIS MUSICAL CULTURE. FASHION DIALOGUE WITH MUSIC.
In his reflection entitled Music and dress: female characters in the world of bourgeois musical culture, musicologist Dr Marko Motnik will highlight the "feminisation" of music in the 19th century, which was also reflected in clothing fashion, and music as a value that defined social boundaries and prestige at the time. The dialogue with him will be established by the students of the Maribor Conservatoire of Music and Ballet, who will perform their own songs and a piano recital.
In 19th century bourgeois society, musical education was a value that defined social boundaries, as music was not accessible to everyone. The 19th century saw a general 'feminisation' of music, with a commitment to the arts reflected in clothing fashion. It is no coincidence that the piano was the focus of interest, with young bourgeois women indulging their love of music. The piano, with its dual function as musical instrument and piece of furniture, was an obvious, excellent and sometimes somewhat intrusive indicator of the cultural outlook of the inhabitants of respectable bourgeois homes.

Theme: In 2023, we focus on fashion and sport. Theme: In 2020, we have thematically linked fashion to the epidemic.
Duration: The project ran from 19 May to 19 June 2020. Due to the epidemiological situation, the project was carried out virtually.

PROGRAMME:
Lot 1: PROTECTIVE MASKS - A NEW FASHION ADDITION?
Many people have organised or reorganised their homes, attics and cellars while we stayed at home. Clothes closets have also been given a new look in many places. People revived various handicraft techniques of knitting, crocheting and sewing. Many people also sewed their own masks. Various fashion designers also contributed costumes and responded quickly to the crisis and the lack of protective gear at the beginning of the epidemic. Some of them also joined forces with each other. For the first part of the project, we invited Maja Štamol, Tanja Uvera, Jasmina Granduč, DH Fashion, the ZOOFA Designers and Makers Cooperative, and Dr Sonja Šterman.
Lot 2: HOMEWEAR = SERVICEWEAR
Many people worked from home. How do clothes affect our well-being, our productivity at work and, ultimately, our relationship with ourselves? Clothes both define us and symbolise us in a way. We have different roles at home than we do at work, so we have a different dress image. We do different jobs in our home clothes that require comfortable and flexible clothes, but these clothes are not necessarily productive in terms of the tasks we do at work. In fact, most people feel much more productive if they dress accordingly.
At this time, a compromise was recommended. You can be comfortable in clothes and also feel organised and inspired to work in a different way. Another important segment was to draw the line between work and "home again". Therefore, it was also important to put clothes over the body so that it can go into a state of necessary relaxation. When we finish our work commitments, we in a sense "change" into another role.
We wondered how this domestic image will affect fashion. Will it intersect with the new fashion trend? Will it combine comfort with attractiveness? Perhaps a more individual fashion will begin to emerge, a new personal renaissance of the individual? We wanted to know how sociologists, psychologists and fashion designers think about this.
We have invited the following guests to join us for these cues, reflections and questions:

The project ended with a gala presentation of contemporary lace and embroidery crafts, which, with social changes, led to the mass production and sale of underwear and the discovery of new materials and patterns. We organised a fashion show of (lace and embroidered) underwear in collaboration with the Triumph brand. We presented their mission and their story, which was born in 1886 and is still alive, creating, seducing and making people happy.
