Great Creations by Small Masters is a long-standing educational programme, which the Museum is running for the 20th time this year. In honour of this anniversary, the Museum has decided to extend the programme to a larger part of NE Slovenia, including Styria, Prekmurje and Prlekija. This year, for the first time, the programme is being carried out in cooperation with our partner, the Ivan Glinšek Kindergarten in Maribor, as we have decided to invite children from kindergartens to join in the art creation. The competition is open to all primary school and kindergarten children in this part of Slovenia.
This year's theme was Time Machine. It is related to the permanent exhibition of the Maribor Regional Museum, Portrait of the Bourgeoisie, which focuses, among other things, on technological progress in the 19th and early 20th centuries. Mentors were therefore invited to introduce the children to the themes of the greatest technological inventions of the period. The children painted subjects ranging from steam locomotives, radios, televisions, old telephones, the first aeroplanes, the first cars, to submarines, street lighting and high-wheels.
The jury consisted of experts from the Faculty of Education, the University of Maribor, a representative of the Maribor Regional Museum and two representatives of the Ivan Glinšek Kindergarten Maribor.

More than 340 children from 21 schools and 10 kindergartens took part in this year's competition. A selection of the works to be exhibited can be found here.
Among them were Puconci Primary School, Janko Ribič Primary School in Cezanjevci near Ljutomer, Križevci Primary School, St.Trojica Primary School, Janko Glazer Primary School in Ruše, Drago Kobal Primary School in Maribor, Mala Nedelja Kindergarten, Slovenj Graderc Kindergarten, Artiče Kindergarten and others.
The exhibition will be opened 7. 5. 2024, at 17.0015 children from different age groups will receive art prizes for their creations, i.e. 3 children each from the 1st and 2nd age groups in kindergarten and the 1st, 2nd and 3rd period of primary school.
